A recent, long-term study shows that workplace bullying is significantly associated with both forcing employees to change employers and pushing them out of working life completely, robbing them of the financial and social benefits of work.
“Exposure to bullying behaviors was found to be significantly related to unemployment five years on,” reads the study “Take it or leave: a five-year prospective study of workplace bullying and indictors of expulsion in working life.”
Why this research matters
For those who’ve experienced workplace bullying, this research isn’t shocking. But for those who haven’t experienced workplace bullying, this research supports the argument that we need to make workplace bullying illegal to protect individuals and organizations and create a healthier society.
